Just Say NO!

So I started this diet thing at the beginning of the year... it wasn't a resolution as much as a "30 days until i'm 25 - bringing it in with a bang!" type thing. =] The rules were very direct and easy to follow:

- No Alcohol
- Only drink water, with the exception of ONE outside drink a day. (Gotta keep those electrolytes in tact.)
- No Rice (though, for one of my friends it was no WHITE rice - as you know, we're in the south and rice is a staple in our diet).
- No Cake, Candy, Icecream, Cookies, Pies (We decided after the fact that brownies classify as a cake.)
- Exercise 3x a week.

That seems pretty easy right?? Right! The first few days, I lost ALL of my energy. As you all know (hence the blog title), I have a serious sweet tooth. Lack of sweets had me literally going insane. I was taking 3-4 naps a day and just so sluggish. But I was getting all that gunk out of my system! And as much as I was struggling, eventually it all passed and I had MORE energy than I started off with. I was actually doing quite well!

Well, that was until the day I broke down. As I said, I'm southern, and rice is just something we always have. With that being said, coming up with starch substitutes was HARD. I tried macaroni a few (many) times, a baked potato once, ramen noodles a few times and then I just went a few meals without starch at all. I was doing pretty well, surprised myself. Even did Just Dance 4 for some cardio.

So, around day 12/13, my grandma decides to make bbq baked chicken. And what did she serve it with? Rice! And honestly, how can you eat bbq chicken with extra bbq sauce/gravy and NOT top it over rice? *sigh* And so it began. I gave in.

I started off with "Oh, i'll just get a couple table spoons full." Much less than the two heaps of rice pot spoonfuls that I usually get. And mmmaaaaaannnn was it good. And as much as I wanted, I paced myself and did NOT get seconds.

The next day, we had leftovers. (*Insert lowering head with shame face here*) And so for the second day in a row, I broke my 'fast' and ate rice.

Well, there was just a liiiiiittle more rice left, but, there was also just a liiiiiittle more sauce left too. And, for the third day in a row. I gave in.

And now i know, its a vicious, endless cycle. The excuses just started pouring in. My thought process went from "No." to "Well...." and no water turned into 'waterdown drinks' or 'well technically this is the same meal so a refill doesn't count as two drinks' and so on...

Life lesson learned? Just Say No!

And now, ladies and gents, as I go heat up some black beans to go over my seasoned yellow rice and zesty herb chicken, I extend this little bit of wisdom to you all.
